Newsletter #38

June 21st Edition of
The K/1 Class News

Hi everyone, only one more week to go!

On Monday someone from the library came to talk about the summer programming they are setting up. Later we completed our dragonfly art and heard a story of the 4 harmonious brothers. For last snack we decided to take advantage of the beautiful day and had a picnic outside under the big cedar tree. After that we played in the forest and did face painting.

Tuesday we released our butterflies! It was a fun experience for all, even if some were sad to say goodbye. We also did our usual journals, gym, math and more.

On Wednesday, we read, “The Gruffalo” and then hunted for Gruffalo characters. We also created sun art and completed Self-Assessments. Later we watched Ms. K’s class perform the play, “Eagle Boy” a First Nations legend about forgiveness. It was very well done and the class loved it.

On Thursday we worked on vowel sounds in words, had music and Whole School Meeting and visited the bog. We played some forest games and explored nature.

Just a reminder that on Monday we walk from the school to Drummond Park. We will be leaving the school at 12:40pm and would appreciate extra help with the walk. Everyone is welcome to come and join this year-end picnic tradition. The kids will be catching the bus back to the school for the usual bus runs. If you are attending the picnic you can obviously bring your child home with you from the park.

Then on Tuesday, we will meet at 7:30am at the Fulford ferry terminal for our full day field trip. Please try to be there on time so we have time to get the kids into their groups and get organized.

On Thursday, the last day of school, you are invited to join the class for slideshow highlighting our year. We will start the slideshow at 11am. Following the slideshow we will have a completion ceremony and then say goodbye! It is our hope that everyone can be there for this special completion of our year.

Important dates to remember:
June 25th End of year picnic at Drummond Park.
June 26th Trip to the Museum and Petting Zoo in Victoria (permission slip to come.)
June 28th End of the year slideshow and celebration at 11am, everyone welcome! Early Dismissal at 11:30am.

Have a nice weekend,
Ara and Klare
