The Kindergarten Class News

Hello Everyone.

Well, our Spring sun has arrived! We continue to deal with sickness at school and were down many staff members due to germs at school.

Monday was an extra exciting day as our chicks hatched! The kids were thrilled to witness this and see the little cuties after waiting so long. Somehow, we managed to get some work done and practised printing the letter g. We worked more on segmenting the sounds in words and made cute chick art. The peas continue to grow in the garden!

On Tuesday we got to hold the chicks for the first time as they had dried/fluffed out. So cute! We also worked on measurement in math and continued working on writing. Later the class went to Music and outside.

Wednesday I was home sick. The class had literacy centres, went to the Whole School Meeting and the library. Please try to send the books back each week.

On Thursday our Big Buddy class came down to read with us and visit with the chicks. They are getting bigger every day! Celeste and Beau shared their writing through our authors chair and the class had lots of positive comments in response. Later the kids went to Music and had their Hearing/Dental screenings.

The Kindergarten Class News

Hello again.

The kids had another fun week, aside from the ongoing sickness going around and the freezing weather! We hope to see everyone back next week along with some more sun!

On Monday we worked on printing the lowercase letter q. We also worked on using our fingers to hear the sounds in words. Later the kids started a beautiful Earth Day art and writing piece and talked about ways to protect our planet. It was a cold and windy afternoon and we decided to do an indoor buddy activity.

Tuesday, we checked our chick eggs again and were thrilled to see movement inside the eggs! Next week is the expected hatch date. We also continued learning about measurement and had another writing lesson. This time the focus was adding labels to our pictures using the sounds they know. It was music day and our outside time was fresh and clear. The peas have started poking up through the dirt!

On Wednesday we started exploring story workshop! The focus was learning the elements of a story through a play-based setting. The class LOVED it! We also went to the library. Please remember to send back the library books each week so that your child can check another one out.

Thursday I was away. The class had free choice in the gym, continued working on writing and had a chance to share writing out through an author’s chair set up. They went to music and played in the forest.

Hello families, here are a few highlights from our week.

Monday there was no school due to the Easter long weekend.

On Tuesday we started learning about measurement in math. Our first focus was comparing sizes relative to us. We also had our last Oral Language group with Olive as she has now moved on to the wonderful world of retirement. We have been so lucky to have her assist our class for so long! Later the children went to Music class. A highlight of our day was candling our chick eggs! It is a way to check for development using a dark room and flashlight. So far only one eggs didn’t work out.

Wednesday we continued learning about phonemes and letter knowledge, had our Whole School Meeting and went to the library. We also continue to watch our pea garden! Soon little shoots will poke through.

On Thursday we went up to our Big Buddy group and practiced reading with them. We also started an EPIC writing sprint with the help of our teacher librarian, Katie Brown. We will be working with Katie twice a week on different writing skills for the next month.

Friday was a school day and PJ day! We ran on our Monday schedule. We practiced printing the letter p, made beautiful spring flower art inspired by Eric Carle and went outside. The afternoon was sunny and warm.

Next week is the letter V for Show and Tell. Please only send one item in.

This last term is a busy time. You will notice more permission slips or forms coming home. Please be sure to keep an eye on the important dates and check the planner bag each day.
