Hi Everyone!

Another week goes by. Here is a recap of some of the things we did.

On Monday the class worked hard on their printing and started learning basketball skills in the gym. Later, they practiced poetry and made art to celebrate Lunar New Year.

Tuesday, we had fun working with numbers is various math centres. We also continued learning about rhyme in oral language groups and then went to Music. We have started integrating more reading time into our day and the kids are learning strategies to help them figure out the story.

On Wednesday we had our literacy centres (always fun!) and went to the Whole School Meeting. Dash and Sean showed their penguin projects to the school! We continue to work on basketball and went to the library.

Thursday, we started the day with buddy reading and then enjoyed learning what predators’ penguins have. The kids wrote about pets they have, or wish to have, in their journals. After Music, the class helped clean up the room before our forest time.

I will be hosting Student Led Conferences on February 15. This is an early dismissal day, and you are invited to come in and let your child show you what they have been learning. I will be sending you a sign-up document soon. Please sign up for a time slot that works for you.

Important dates to remember:

February 14 Valentine’s Day

February 15 Early Dismissal/Student Led Conferences

February 20 Family Day (no school)

February 24 School in session

Hi Everyone!

There continues to be ongoing sickness in students and teachers. I hope we start to see a shift soon. Here is a recap of some of the things we did this week.

On Monday we worked math into our penguin art and counted fish to feed the penguins using simple addition. We also made “snowpeople” using the letters in our names and explored the very wet forest! Rubber boots are a must these days!

Tuesday, we started back up with our Oral Language Groups and focused on rhyme. We also learned more about the number 8 and went to music. Mrs. Seabrook filled in for me as I had to attend a health and safety training session.

On Wednesday Mrs. Seabrook taught again as I had to be in another meeting all day. They continued learning about rhyme and syllables in literacy centres. After the library, the kids enjoyed viewing projects on display from the “big kids” and went outside.

Thursday, we had a fun time in the gym and practiced printing the lowercase letter ‘n’. We also had our big buddies come down and practice reading with us. Quinten visited in the afternoon and joined us in the forest.

Kindergarten registration has opened early this year! Please let any families with children turning 5 this year to register as soon as possible.

Important Dates to Remember:

February 14 Valentine’s Day

February 15 Early Dismissal

February 20 Family Day (no school)

Enjoy the weekend!

Hi Everyone!

It is nice to be back working with your wonderful children. Here is a recap of some of the things we did this week.

On Monday we continued practicing our printing. Later we worked on drawing and poetry with Mrs. Creech and started a unit on Penguins. The had a lot of good questions they would like to find out about these birds!

Tuesday, we focused on the number 7 in math, learned about where penguins live and went to Music class. We also had fun in the gym and forest. Later we went and saw how much water had filled the bog!

On Wednesday we had our literacy stations with a focus on letters, rhyming and syllables. It is always a lot of fun. We also were super strong in the gym and went to the library. Please remember to send back the library books each week or contact the office if one is lost. We also went to the Whole School Meeting and Journey and Anna showed their New Year firework art. Later the class learned what penguins like to eat.

Thursday, we had a fun time in the gym and wrote in our journals. We made very cute penguin art and went to Music. It was a very wet day, and many children used their spare clothes. Please send back clean clothes to replace the spares that may have come home. We could also use any extra plastic shopping bags you may have stashed away.

Next week will be “Ll” week for show and tell. If your child has something beginning with the letter L to show on their day that would be great. I am not strict about this, and they are also welcomed to bring something they really want to share, even if it doesn’t begin with L. On that note, if it is not a S&T related item, please leave it at home. We generally don’t encourage toys from home as they can cause conflict and often get lost. Thanks for your understanding.

Important dates to remember:

February 14 Valentine’s Day

February 15 Early Dismissal

February 20 Family Day (no school)

February 24 School in session

Enjoy the weekend!
