Newsletter #33

 May 28th Edition of

The Kindergarten Class News

Hi Everyone, here is the last newsletter of May.

Monday, no school.

Tuesday was an exciting day! Our baby caterpillars arrived! The children are excited to watch them grow and transform into butterflies. We also did a reading assessment and went to music before heading outside.

Wednesday, we practiced reading, writing and math and the kids were thrilled to become little scientists! They each started a butterfly observation journal and will study the caterpillars as they grow.

On Thursday the kids were excited to share their stories about their special artifacts. Thank you for helping facilitate this activity, it provided great inspiration for their writing. Later we had another great dance class with Kristen Lewis and just missed the rain! Later we played in the rainy forest and luckily, everyone had a good jacket.

Friday was a school day and so we made it extra fun. We decided to make it a costume day! The kids had a lot of fun. We finished up our story project and practiced printing the number 7. Later, we went on our walking trip to the beach. It was a magical afternoon exploring the seashore.

Important dates to remember:

June 2nd Water balloon toss, please send extra clothes!

June 24th Primary Fun Day!

June 28th (Possible) End of the year picnic at Drummond Park.

Newsletter #32

 May 20th Edition of

The Kindergarten Class News

Hi Everyone, here we are nearing the end of May already! Here are this week’s highlights.

On Monday I was away for a union meeting and Mrs. Freeman taught the class. The kids practiced writing in their journals, printed the number 6 and practiced reading.

Tuesday, we had our last Oral Language Groups of the year. The kids have learned a lot! Wo continued learning about butterflies and are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our Painted Ladies larva.

On Wednesday we started off our day with our class photo! We were not able to do a whole school shot this year due to COVID restrictions. We also had a Very Hungry Caterpillar themed day. We did literacy and math activities using this theme.

Thursday, we welcomed “Mr. Q-cumber”, aka Quinten, in. He taught us a fun traditional Coast Salish game about making people smile. It was a lot of fun. The kids always enjoy our time with him. Later we had another fun dance class with Kristen Lewis! After Music, we drew shadows in our nature art books and then played in the forest. The wild roses are starting to bloom and fill the forest with a sweet aroma.

Next week we have some fun events planned!

Please note that if your child usually has Show and Tell on Monday (Arlo, Desmia, Ella Mae and Oaklyn) they will share on Friday next week. We have completed the letter of the week and kids can bring anything.

We are starting a writing project using a special item from home as inspiration to write about a memory/experience. This could be a rock found on a trip to the beach, a photo or any other small item that sparks inspiration. Children will be asked to bring their item in on Thursday, May 27th. Please help your child bring something small enough that it can sit on their desk and not get in the way. Toys are not encouraged.

Friday will be dress-up day! Come dressed as a fairy, forest friend or fantasy character! Light costumes are encouraged as we will be walking to the beach that day too.

Important dates to remember:

May 24th Victoria Day (No school)

May 25th EPRA reading assessments

May 28th Friday School Day/Dress up day/ Walk to the beach.

Have a nice long weekend,

Ara

Newsletter #31

 May 14th Edition of

The Kindergarten Class News

Hello Everyone, what a beautiful week. The mix of rain and sun is sure making our forest lush!

On Monday we continued our butterfly theme in writing and art. The kids wrote poems about butterflies and made beautiful butterfly symmetry paintings. We also played a yoga game in the gym and practiced printing the number 5.

Tuesday we had another session in our Oral Language groups and played insect themed letter/number bingo. Later, the class went to music and played in the forest.

On Wednesday I was in a morning meeting and the kids practiced their numbers in math, wrote in the journals and went to the library. Later we added to our nature art and played in the forest.

Thursday we brainstormed and wrote about what would be the best day of Kindergarten! We will be starting to fit in as many fun activities as possible to make the end of our year the best ever. We welcomed Kristen Lewis in to start our Thursday dance sessions! We moved and danced outside, and it was a lot of fun. Later we went up to Music and went to the forest/garden.

Friday was a school day! We had a super fun day. We had free choice in the gym, extra centres and began our “Cool Kid” of the day exploration. Each day one child gets to be the special child, and everyone fills their bucket with kind words about them. We also did a math/writing activity inspired by “The Grouchy Ladybug” and made Eric Carl inspired art. It was a full day!

Important dates to remember:

May 19th Class Photos (please be on time! The K's usually go first)

May 24th Victoria Day (No school)

May 28th School Day/Afternoon walk to the beach. If you have completed the criminal records check and would like to join us on our walk, please let me know!

Have a nice weekend.

Warmly,

Ara Van Riel
