Newsletter #33

May 30th Edition of
The Kindergarten Class News

Hi everyone, here is our last newsletter of May.

Monday we went to the library for the last time this year. Please make sure that all library books are returned next week for inventory. We also worked on math, reading and played in the forest.

On Tuesday we worked on symmetry in art, butterflies are a perfect example of this concept! I also introduced the class to the story of “The Little Red Hen”, adapted from the book by Paul Gadlone. We will be putting on a readers theatre show for parents and friends near the end of June. Mark your calendars!

Wednesday we worked on printing and welcomed Cathy from the Salt Spring Island Conservancy in to do a pre-trip activity. The kids are all excited about our trip to Ruckle Park next week. Kaz continued her unit on healthy eating with the class and we made self-portraits in nature.

On Thursday we had Whole School Meeting (Jasmine, Harvey and Galini showed their butterfly art), went to Music and worked on number order. Later we practiced our play, watered the garden and had forest play. Most of the class stayed on for the PAC BBQ and had a great time. What a beautiful afternoon for it! Thanks to all who came out to support.

**Reminder** We will be going on a field trip to Ruckle Park on June 4th. The trip is organized by the Salt Spring Conservancy and is always a great day of learning and adventure. Please be sure to send a water bottle, hat and warm layer. The forest can get a bit chilly but the beach can be hot in the sun.

As you can see, the last week of school is a busy one! It is my sincere hope that all the children will be in attendance on these days. We will have worked hard to prepare for the Readers Theatre performance and we hope you can make it. I understand it will not be possible for everyone, so I plan on filming the show to send out. The last day is also a very special one for the class. We will close the year with a slideshow highlighting our year and I will be handing out awards and little gifts. This is also a great opportunity to come collect spare clothes and stuff to take home for the summer. I hope you can make it at 10:45am.

Hi everyone, we had a very fun week!

Monday was a holiday, so no school.

On Tuesday the kids used their knowledge of letter sounds to figure out mystery words! It was a fun activity. We also learned about the life cycle of the butterfly and started learning about the value of Canadian coins. That afternoon thekids had their last Nature Art class with Lisa. This time we worked on drawing shadows. The Nature Art books went home on Wednesday.

Wednesday was fun day! In the morning we had our last dance lesson in the gym, practiced printing and wrote in our journals. In the afternoon the kids in grades K-3 enjoyed fun day! They rotated through different stations like water relays, face painting, an obstacle course and so on. Everyone had a blast! Thanks to all of the parents who came to help out.

On Thursday we practiced skipping with jump ropes in the gym, worked on symmetry in art and went to Music. Later the class enjoyed centres, helped care for the garden and had forest play.

Friday was a school day and also Jump Rope for Heart. Thanks to all of you who sent in donations for this good cause. The kids had another fun morning participating in this event. Later the SIMS band came to perform for the school. It was nice to see what some of the older kids are learning to do.

We will be going on a field trip to Ruckle Park on June 4th. Permission slips went home on Wednesday. Please return both the green and white form by Monday. The trip is organized by the Salt Spring Conservancy and is always a great day of learning and adventure.
