Hi Everyone!

Here is a recap of some of the things we did this week.

On Monday we continued working on printing practice, made winter trees in art and went to Music class. Later we learned about some of the traditional uses of xpey’ (cedar) in the forest.

Tuesday, we worked on rhyming in our Oral Language Groups and focused in on the beginning sound in words. Later the class went to the library and then Quinten shared a legend with us at last snack. The kids had an amazing time playing in the forest.

On Wednesday we practiced number sequencing and later practiced writing. Ms. Cameron took the class to do nature studies and we worked on reading.

Thursday, we had a fun time in the gym and searched the room for mittens to count. Later we made little January books and practiced reading. We also worked on story structure and went to the bog.

Next week will be “Nn” week for show and tell.

Important Dates to Remember:

January 26 Raffle Tickets due back (even if unsold)

January 31 Raffle Draw

 January 13th Edition of

The Kindergarten Class News

Welcome back Everyone!

I hope you all had a good holiday and are ready for a great new term. The kids are, understandably, readjusting to being back at school and are likely pretty tired out after our days!

On Monday the students were very excited to be back at school. We started working on basketball skill building activities in the gym and continued with our printing practice. Later we made cute snow-person names and went to Music class. The highlight of our day was making a snow volcano during outside time!

Tuesday, we worked on our penguin books and started back up with our Oral Language Groups (focus is rhyming). Later the kids went to the library and came home with a fun library reading bingo challenge! The snow was still around and we went on a winter scavenger hunt in the forest.

Wednesday was another very wet day! We practiced counting and recognizing numbers through a domino/number matching game. We also talked about the months in the year and focused in on what happens in winter during writing. We started learning about trees in the afternoon.

On Thursday we finished off our penguin books, read “The Mitten” by Jan Brett and made mitten art. We followed this theme in math and then practiced our reading. In the afternoon, Quinten led us to the forest and we had fun playing fir cone games.

Next week is ‘Mm’ week for Show and Tell.

It was a great first week back. I hope you enjoy your weekend.

Warmly,

Ara Van Riel and Ms. Janice
