June 14th Edition of
The K/1 Class News

Hi everyone, here are the highlights of our busy week!

On Monday the butterflies started hatching! The kids were so excited to check in throughout the day to see how may had emerged. We had gym outside and enjoyed a special performance by the SSIMS music band and choir - really great. We continue to work on printing and later we started a dragonfly craft. During our forest time, the kids made their own stories and performances.

Tuesday Rineke surprised us with fruitsicles as a thank you and to celebrate completing the Roots of Empathy program. It was a great experience for all of us. We later wrote about what we liked best about Roots of Empathy and then had reading practice before heading outside.

On Wednesday we combined math and art to make ladybug math addition equations. After recess everyone worked on our Father’s Day gift and had centres. In the afternoon we watched “The Wizard of Oz” play. What a great performance! The grade 2-3 and 4-5 classes obviously worked hard on this play and everyone loved it.

On Thursday morning we reflected on our year. The kids then wrote about their favourite memories thus far. Later in the afternoon, we welcomed Janet Hoag in to help run reading assessments with the kids. Janet is always a lot of fun.

Permission slips were sent home on Thursday for our trip to the museum and petting zoo coming up on June 26th. In order for this trip to take place, we need parent volunteers to come along. The cost of bus transportation, museum and petting zoo will be covered for the volunteers. The IMAX fee is not included, but this could also be a nice time for a little break for those wanting it. Please let us know if you are able to join us and we will take the first 4 volunteers.

Furthermore, if you are able to come and walk from the school to Drummond Park on the 25th, we will be leaving the school at 12:40pm and would appreciate the extra help. Everyone is welcome to come and join this year-end picnic tradition. The kids will be catching the bus back to the school for the usual bus runs. If you are attending the picnic you can obviously bring your child home with you from the park.

On June 28th, the last day of school, you are invited to join the class for slideshow highlighting our year. We will start the slideshow at 11am. Following the slideshow we will have a completion ceremony and then say goodbye! It is our hope that everyone can be there for this special completion of our year.

Important dates to remember:
June 25th End of year picnic at Drummond Park.
June 26th Trip to the Museum and Petting Zoo in Victoria (permission slip to come.)
June 28th End of the year slideshow and celebration at 11am, everyone welcome!

Have a nice weekend,
Ara and Klare
