The K/1 Class News

Hello Everyone!

It’s hard to believe we only have a few more weeks of school before the Winter break! December is a super busy month with many fun events so take a look at the important dates listed.

The class has been practicing the song, Welcome Christmas, and will be performing it in Annie. I have sent the lyrics home if you can provide some time to rehearse with your child. Here is a link to the karaoke version they can sing along to: https://youtu.be/0eaUokvFv48?si=Sbl7QCOvXYJ77prV

The kids are asked to wear winter gear (mittens/hats/sweaters or coats) for their scene in the play as they are pretending to walk the winter streets.

Please remember to return all sold or unsold raffle tickets by Monday. They need to be collected for the draw.

Please remember to bring in any lightly used items to the Re-gift Fest donation area by the office on Monday. We encourage families to donate the same number of items as the number of people in their immediate family. Next week the classes will all get to go and choose a gift to wrap and bring home to give to immediate family members on Christmas (or other special time if you don’t participate in Christmas). It’s a nice lesson on giving that we all enjoy every year. If any of you would like to help wrap presents on Thursday, please contact the office.

Greetings Everyone. Another week goes by! Here is a bit about our week:

Ms. Cheryl started an on-going project about identifying different textures and colours in nature relating the senses and working in the forest. Our big buddies helped out on Monday!

We are continuing our unit on the elements of a story and Ms. Cheryl has focused in on some amazing legends to guide the thinking.

Some highlights were the Artstart drumming show and lesson! The message was about resilience and how making mistakes only helps us grow stringer. It was powerful and fun!

We also had fun creating ornaments using the felt beads we made! They are coming home today.

Next week is ‘I’ week in Show and Tell. If your child has an item beginning with the “I’ sound, they would like to bring we welcome it.

Hello Everyone! We had another good week at Fulford. It was a nice break from the rain!

So much learning happens every day and the class is soaking it up. Ms. Cheryl has started teaching a few lessons and is sharing her knowledge of Hul’qumi’num words with us and the kids are catching on fast!

This week we started learning about the elements of a story with a focus on Indigenous legends. We also continue learning about underhand throwing in the gym.

We have had fun learning about the seasons and have woven this theme into art and writing.

We welcomed in Florence Daurelle in on Thursday to introduce wet felting with the class. They all had fun making beads.

You may have noticed our entrance door has been locked. If you arrive to school late or are coming to drop something off, please use the office door.

Next week is ‘H’ week for Show and Tell.

Re-Gift Fest is coming up! It is a much-loved school event where families donate gently used items for us to set up in our “Christmas Store.” The students then shop in the Christmas Store for free for gifts for each of their immediate family members. Families are asked to kindly start setting aside gently used items suitable for a range of ages (baby to adult) but no clothing, please. We suggest you donate the same number of items as there are members in your family. Also, any donations of wrapping paper/gift bags/tags would be greatly appreciated. Donations are to be brought to the office starting at the end of the month (date to be determined).

Important Dates to Remember:

December 7th Re-Gift Fest

December 20th Winter Production of Annie

December 22nd Winter Break begins

Enjoy your weekend!
