The Kindergarten Class News

Hi everyone, only one more week to go!

On Monday the class practiced making 10 in math, wrote about what they did on the weekend in their journals and painted orange rocks that will be a part of our National Indigenous Day celebrations.

Tuesday, we had a guest come from the local library and shared information about summer reading and camp opportunities held at the library. She then showed us a magic show via Zoom. Fun! Later we continued learning about the value of Canadian money and the kids were very involved in playing with the pretend money all centres!

On Wednesday we wrote about our favourite things that happened in Kindergarten and continued our money talks. As the library is now closed, the kids did not check out a book. We enjoyed a warm afternoon in the forest.

Thursday was a big day! We had pizza day and Fun day! The kids were, understandably, a little bit excited. We had our usual morning and then joined up with the other 2 primary classes to rotate through fun stations like face painting, a water relay, bowling, bubbles and an obstacle course. Wow!

It’s hard to believe that there are only two days left before the break. I’ve started sending home some personal belongings but Next Tuesday a pickup after school would be great as there will be large portfolios coming home as well as any other personal items.

Important dates to remember:

June 28th National Indigenous Day celebration.

June 29th Last day of Kindergarten!

September 7th School begins

Have a nice weekend, it should be hot!

Warmly,

Ara Van Riel

The Kindergarten Class News

Hi Everyone, we had another busy week and it was a lot of fun. We are nearing the end of our school year! I hope that all the children will be here for our last 2 days of school as there are many exciting events planned. Please let me know, if you haven’t already done so, if you will be starting your holiday early.

On Monday we finished our printing practice with the number 10. The kids wrote in their journals about animals the think are nice and then rode the school bus to Drummond Park! The kids joined Mrs. K’s class and reported a glorious afternoon. I stayed behind to welcome next year’s new Kindergarten students in for an orientation.

Tuesday, we worked on numbers, had fun in the gym and made Father’s Day cards. We also chose this day to release some of our butterflies! The kids were so excited to watch them fly out.

On Wednesday we finished our Father’s Day gifts. They came home in a blue little bag. Check backpack pockets if you didn’t see yours. We also celebrated filling our “Listening Jar” with a popcorn and movie party!

Thursday, we learned a little about financial literacy by exploring the concept of value, equality and trading. Later we had our final dance class with Kristen Lewis and went to Music class. I surprised the class with popsicles at the end of a hot day!

Important dates to remember:

June 23th Magic Show

June 24th Fun Day and Pizza Day! (make sure forms/$ are returned by Monday)

June 28th National Indigenous Day celebration.

June 29th Last day of kindergarten!

Have a nice weekend, and happy Father’s Day to all you dads!

The Kindergarten Class News

Hi Everyone, here are the highlights from our busy week!

On Monday we practiced our counting and printing the number 9. The kids wrote in their journals and practiced noticing details in a symmetry project. Later we enjoyed time in the forest.

Tuesday, we used our creative thinking to break down the number 7 and represent it in a variety of ways. We also learned more about what a community is and how many different people help a community operate. The class then went to music, and later we talked more about what plants are edible and which ones should never be eaten in our forest.

On Wednesday we talked about our favourite fruits and veggies, practiced doing a self-assessment of the core competencies and went to the library. Please return any overdue library books, as the library inventory is underway.

On Thursday we combined math and art in a butterfly themed activity, practiced sorting the sounds ‘sh’, ‘th’ and ‘ch’ and went to Music.

The class will be going on a fieldtrip this Monday! We will be taking the bus to and from Drummond Park in the afternoon with Ms. K’s class. We will leave the school at 1pm and return at 3pm. I’m sure the kids will be excited to ride the bus. If you can send in $2 to help pay for the bus ride, we would really appreciate it!

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 protocols/restrictions, we are unable to invite parents in to watch our Kindergarten graduation ceremony or do the end of the year picnic at Drummond Park.  Instead, I will be sending home a copy of the end of the year slideshow so you can enjoy it with your family. If it’s at all possible to pick up your child on the last day, I would suggest you do, as there will be a lot of stuff being sent home. It may be too much for the bus.

Important dates to remember:

June 14th Trip to Drummond Park

June 20th Father’s Day

June 24th Fun Day

June 29th Last day of kindergarten!

Have a nice weekend,
