 April 29th Edition of

The Kindergarten Class News

Hello Everyone.

Here are some highlights from our week. I hope you all have an enjoyable weekend.

Monday, we started playing with the parachute in the gym. We also practiced printing the number 3. Later we started a poetry unit using sight words and had a bonus Music class to make up for one missed last week. We continue learning about insects and became “bug detectives” in the forest!

On Tuesday we continued blending sounds together in our Oral Language Groups. We learned that some insects have different mouth parts and eat in a variety of ways! The kids brought home books they made. Ask them to tell you about the different ways of eating.

Wednesday we practiced insect themed addition equations in math and wrote in our journals. Later we went to the library and practiced reading. In the afternoon, we had nature art and played in the forest.

On Thursday the class used their creative thinking to imagine what type of insect they would be if they had a choice. Later I read, “The Six Cedar Trees” by Margo Landahl and talked about how the animals represented in the book relate to our learning. The kids all connected to different animals. Later, we had Music and went outside on a walk to the bog. The water sure has receded since our last visit! It is almost gone!

Important dates to remember:

May 6 Dance Workshop begins on Thursdays

May 14 School in session

May 24 Victoria Day-no school

May 28 School Day

Have a nice weekend.

Warmly,

The Kindergarten Class News

Hello again.

Hello sunshine! Everyone has enjoyed the beautiful weather this week. Please remember to send your child to school with sunscreen on and a hat if you feel they need it. We are loving the sun.

Monday was another beautiful day. We are reviewing printing numbers now to encourage proper formation. We started with the number 2. We also worked on an Earth Day inspired craft and writing piece. It was heartwarming to hear the children speak of caring for our earth. We sure live in a great community of big thinkers!

On Tuesday we started blending sounds together in our Oral Language Groups. We wrote in our journals (after a long break for our EPIC writing project) and I was so pleased at how independent the kids are now! We continue to care for our little garden and some of our peas have now sprouted!

Wednesday the kids had fun in the gym and then we learned about the different body parts of an insect. Ask your child to sing you the insect song! Later we went to the library and then made sprout houses for our window so we can observe beans growing roots and shoots. In the afternoon, we started a nature art project. We practiced drawing what we heard in nature with our eyes closed. The kids were so focused!

On Thursday we celebrated Earth Day! We also celebrated each other as authors and shared out the animal stories the kids created. Later, we worked on sight words and made handprint tulips. I met with Mrs. Lamirand in the afternoon to go over the EPIC project results and noticed how much everyone has improved in their writing! Great work.
