The Kindergarten Class News

Hello Everyone!

It was a short, yet busy week!

On Monday the class had their individual photos taken. We played in the gym and went to Music class. We have also been focusing on building friendship skills and the importance of kindness. We read the book, “Have you Filled a Bucket Today?” and talked about what you can do to fill someone’s bucket. Ask your child to tell you what it means to fill someone’s bucket up. It was a very rainy afternoon and we all bundled up and enjoyed a wet time in the forest.

Tuesday I was away at various meetings in the morning and Mrs. Freeman (also the Music teacher) led the class while I was out. The kids went to the gym (as we do every day) and worked on making patterns. In the afternoon, the class went to the library and exchanged books. Please be sure to return these books by Tuesday each week so that your child can sign out a new one. Later that afternoon, we all chose a special tree in the forest. We will be doing activities with this tree all year long.

Wednesday was Orange Shirt Day! It was amazing to see almost everyone in the school wearing something orange in support of all children! We practiced printing the letter i and worked in our journals. During our outside time, we went to the forest and practiced writing our names in nature.

Thursday was a holiday.

We have really enjoyed the All About Me presentations! If you missed your day, please send it in whenever it is ready.

Next week we start regular Show and Tell. Your child can bring one item from home each week on their day. Please try to stick to their special day. I also ask that all other toys be left at home unless it is for Show and Tell. We will focusing on the letters of the alphabet and encourage children to bring in something that starts with the letter Aa next week. Here is your child’s ongoing day:

Mondays/Fridays: Arrow, Arye, Baden and Emmi

The Kindergarten Class News

Hello Everyone!

The children continue to do an excellent job adjusting to life at school. They are adapting and are aware of expected behaviour and routines. Thank you to Jocelyn Lukow for volunteering to be our class rep!

With the rainy weather approaching, we will be welcoming the kids to come right in the Kindy door in the morning by 8:10am so they don't need to wait outside.

On Monday the class started working on letter printing practice. We will work through all the lowercase letters first and follow the order suggested by Printing Like a Pro. As the children begin to learn to write, I encourage proper pencil grip as it makes writing and drawing so much easier. Here is a video that shows the proper pencil grip so you can reinforce it at home: https://youtu.be/Eq6ggYR-aeY

On Monday we also made fun apple tree art, went to Music and had a nature scavenger hunt in the forest!

Tuesday we started learning more about patterns. The kids practiced making patterns in class and in the forest. I read the book, “A Family is a Family is a Family”, by Sara O’Leary and talked about how all families are special and unique. We then drew pictures of our families. New library books were taken home. Please return them when you are finished reading them.

On Wednesday we learned the alphabet rap, always fun. We also read “My Heart Fills With Happiness” a book by Monique Grey-Smith and wrote about what makes us happy in our journals. Later we made letters out of nature while in the forest.

Thursday was a half day and we continued learning about patterns and apples! The kids also had a lot of fun playing in the gym and learned a new math game.

We are enjoying the All About Me projects. Thanks for all your hard work! Please send in your poster when it is ready for the class to enjoy. If you missed your date, please send in the photo board whenever it is ready. Here is the schedule for next week:

Tuesday-Robin and Sammy

Wednesday-Sylvan and Milo

Thursday-Teo and Vaughn

Monday is school photo day! The kindergarten kids usually go first to have their pictures taken. There will be a retake day on November 1st if your child can't be there.
