Newsletter #23

 April 10th Edition of

The K/1 Class News

Hello families, here are a few highlights from our week.

The class was very excited to “candle” our chick eggs to see how they are developing. At day 5, we could see veins, a small red dot (the embryo) and an air sac. So cool! Everyone has made estimations on how many chicks will hatch out of 12. Guesses range from 1 all the way to 12. Let’s hope it’s on the higher end.

Our class was asked by Byron Farm to be a part of a pumpkin growing project! We will be planting pumpkin seeds from the pumpkin patch we visited in the fall and will then return the plants to be grown for this year’s crop! A great way to observe the life cycle and perhaps see them full size when we go back next school year!

Lyrics for the "Ring Around the Roses" song were sent home. Please practice with your child. We will be dressing up as flowers for the play. Would anyone like to come in and help make paper flower head pieces?

We continue learning about measurement and are focusing on comparing sizes. We have also added in simple addition (and subtraction for the grade 1’s).

Important Dates to Remember:

April 16th – Kindergarten Hearing Screening

April 22nd – Earth Day/chicks

May 6th – Class/school photos (first thing in the morning!)

May 13/14 – School Play

Newsletter #22

April 2nd Edition of

The K/1 Class News

Hello families, I hope you all had a good break. It is so nice to all reunite after some time away.

We have started learning about lots of new subjects. We began a measurement unit in math, story structure/elements, life cycles and more!

We’ve started gardening again and had fun weeding our garden bed and then planting peas. We look forward to learning more about gardening in the coming weeks.

The class is excited to learn about the development of chicks! We have 12 chicken eggs set in our incubator and look forward to our hatch due on April 22nd (Earth Day!). We will learn all about the life cycle and development of these cute creatures!

Kate (the grade 6/7 teacher) has started working on the school play. Our class will be flowers in a garden and we have a song to learn. I will send home the lyrics so you can help practice. It is to the tune of “Ring Around the Rosey”. There will be two performances, and it is encouraged that everyone be present for both. The first one is on May 13th at 1pm and the last one is May 14th at 6pm. You are welcome to take your child home after their song the night of the evening show if you want.

Report Cards were sent home on Thursday. Remember these learning updates are intended for the parents.

There will be a lot of events between now and the end of the year. Please be sure to check your child’s planner for permission slips and notices and keep an eye on the school newsletters.
