The Kindergarten Class News

Hi everyone, only one more week to go!

On Monday the class did a self-reflection, worked on our reading and melted crayons into rainbow crayon pucks! Later we went for a colour hunt in the forest.

Tuesday, I was away. The class enjoyed a performance from the school band. Very impressive! The class did a syllable review and enjoyed music class outside.

On Wednesday we had a number talk, went to Whole School Meeting and as the library is now closed, the kids did not check out a book. Instead, they went to the outdoor classroom and did a sensory activity. We later enjoyed a warm afternoon in the forest.

Thursday, we wrote about our favourite things that happened in Kindergarten and made a rainbow volcano eruption! Later the kids went to Music and then the forest.

Next week will be a busy last week of kindergarten. We will be making each day extra fun. Here is a brief schedule of what to expect.

NEXT WEEK:

Monday-Walk to Drummond Park to for the picnic. I hope you can make it! We will leave the school at 12:40pm if you want to walk with us. Extra parents would be appreciated. If parents do come to the picnic, you are welcome to leave from there when you like. If you can’t make it, the kids will bus back to the school for the usual after school routine.

Tuesday-Extra fun activities! Face painting, water race and more.

Wednesday- National Indigenous Day activities.

Thursday-Kindergarten Graduation celebration! Slideshow and awards from 2:30pm-3pm. Please try to be on time. We will start right away. If you can’t make it, please try to arrange for an alternate pickup as there will be large portfolios coming home as well as any other personal items.

Have a nice weekend, it should be hot!

Warmly,

Ara Van Riel

We are nearing the end of our school year! I hope that all the children will be here for our last few days of school as there are many exciting events planned.

On Monday we started reviewing letters in printing and the different math concepts we have learned this year. “Mr. Cucumber” came in to share an Indigenous story about Raven and taught us how to draw the sun. Later in the garden we snacked on fresh peas!

Tuesday, we started learning about the different values of coins. We also talked about different community helpers and what kind of job the children want when they grow up. During our forest time we learned about different edible plants that were important food sources for the indigenous people.

On Wednesday we continued reviewing math concepts and went to the Whole School Meeting. Instead of library, the kids went on a scavenger hunt outside.

Thursday, we made special gifts to take home. Check the planner bag! We took our knowledge of money into centres and opened a store! The kids had fun “shopping”. As always, there was Music class Thursday afternoon.

Important Dates to Remember:

June 20 Fire Drill

June 26 School/Family Picnic at Drummond Park

June 28 National Indigenous Day

June 29 Kindergarten graduation celebration and slideshow (2:30pm…you are invited!)

Hi Everyone, we had another busy week and it was a lot of fun. We are nearing the end of our school year! I hope that all the children will be here for our last few days of school as there are many exciting events planned. Please let me know if you will be starting your holiday early.

On Monday we practiced our printing before getting ready to head out on our field day to Duck Creek Park! It was a fun day of learning in nature. We learned all about different creek and field communities and enjoyed the variety of stations.

Tuesday was another warm day! We started learning about financial literacy in math. The first concept was balance/value. We also finished up our work with the C.A.R.E. kit and made shadow drawings outside (a little tricky with the wind!).

On Wednesday the class continued working on different ways of counting with Mrs. Creech using small collections, five finger counting, number lines, tens frames and more. Instead of library, the class went on a sense’s scavenger hunt! We also had a lockdown drill, and the kids did very well. The example given was how we could hide and stay quite if a cougar was in the building, and everyone thought it was pretty fun.

Thursday was another fun day. We practiced placing value on natural items (shells, rocks etc) and learned how to trade for an item of equal value. We also made art inspired by the book, “ish” and had our last Big Buddy activity.

Important Dates to Remember:

June 14 Fire drill

June 26 School/Family Picnic at Drummond Park

June 28 National Indigenous Day

June 29 Kindergarten graduation celebration and slideshow (2:30pm…you are invited!)
