The K/1 Class News

Hello Everyone!

It was another busy week! Here are some highlights.

On Monday we practiced our letter sounds in “The Alphabet Rap”. We also learned a new game in the gym and worked more on playing safely. The kids continue to work on printing, this week it was the letter i. We were the first class to visit the new library and look forward to checking books out soon!

Tuesday, we learned a new math game and went to the Whole School Meeting. We also had Music class and went to the forest.

Wednesday the class had their individual photos taken. We played in the gym and during our outside time, we went to the forest and went on a nature scavenger hunt. The kids learned about selecting “Just Right” books and we started our Home Reading program. I hope you enjoy reading with your child. Please return the reading books each day and help them fill out the reading log. Once the log is full, they choose a little prize.

Thursday was Orange Shirt Day! It was amazing to see almost everyone in the school wearing something orange in support of all children and this important message! We participated in a school wide “read-in” with an Indigenous theme where the kids signed up to hear books in multiage groups. We also had music class and harvested more veggies from the garden in preparation for our garden harvest feast next week!

We have really enjoyed the All About Me presentations! If you missed your day, please send it in whenever it is ready. Regular Show and Tell will start next week and we will be focusing on bringing items that begin with the letter of the week (Next week is the letter A). Here is your child’s day for the year:

Mondays (or Friday if Monday is a holiday): Abby, Aurora, Ava, Avery and Celeste

Tuesdays: Fiera, Gemma, Journey, Jordan and Jupiter

Wednesdays: Logan, Nayaan, Nina and Ollie

Thursdays: Sanghé, Siena, Westley, Wren and Yuawi

Please send one item each week on this day. If it is NOT your S&T day, please leave all toys at home. Thank you for your help with this.

Please remember to fill out the criminal record check (if you haven’t already) if you are thinking about volunteering your time in class or on fieldtrips. To access the online request, go to: https://justice.gov.bc.ca/eCRC/. Access Code: DNW8SBGDPQ Thank you!
