The Kindergarten Class News

Hello Everyone!

What a busy, beautiful week! Here are some highlights:

On Monday the class started with printing practice. We will be following the Printing Like a Pro program. We have also been focusing on building friendship skills and the importance of kindness. We read the book, “Have you Filled a Bucket Today?” and talked about what you can do to fill someone’s bucket. Ask your child to tell you what it means to fill someone’s bucket up. Later that afternoon, we all chose a special tree in the forest. We will be doing activities with this tree all year long.

Tuesday I was away at a professional development day. The kids went to the gym (as we do every day) and worked on counting apples. They also went to Music class and played in the forest.

Wednesday was Orange Shirt Day! It was amazing to see almost everyone in the school wearing something orange in support of all children! We welcomed a new student, Josey, into the class and everyone did a great job making her feel welcome. Later, we practiced rhyming, worked in our journals and visited the library. Please be sure to return these books by Wednesday each week so that your child can sign out a new one. During our outside time, we went on a nature scavenger hunt! It was a lot of fun.

On Thursday the class practiced counting, played a name game and went to Music class. After forest play we all took part in the Terry Fox Run. The kids did great! Thanks to those of you who came out to support us.

We have really enjoyed the All About Me presentations! If you missed your day, please send it in whenever it is ready.

Next week we start regular Show and Tell. Your child can bring one item from home each week on their day. Please try to stick to their special day. We will be looking closer at the letters of the alphabet and encourage children to bring in something that starts with the letter Aa next week. Here is a reminder about your child’s ongoing day:

Mondays: Ana, Arlo, Desmia and Ella Mae

Tuesdays: Eva, Gia and Josey

Wednesdays: Lia, Lula and Mateo

Thursdays: Rory, Rosemary, Stella and Will

I will be taking the class on a walking trip to a nearby beach on Monday! If you have a completed SD64 criminal record check and would like to come, please let me know! I believe you will need to socially distance from the kids (other than your own) but can help guide them. We will leave the school at 1pm and return by the end of the day.

Here are some important dates coming up:

October 5th Walking trip to Shell beach 1-3pm

October 12th Thanksgiving- no school

October 16th - School in session

October 19th -Individual School photos. Our class photo will be taken in the spring.

Please remember to fill out the criminal record check (if you haven’t already) if you are thinking about volunteering your time in class or on fieldtrips. To access the online request go to: https://justice.gov.bc.ca/eCRC/. Access Code: DNW8SBGDPQ Thank you!

Have a great weekend!
