The Kindergarten Class News

Happy Friday Everyone!

We continue to enjoy the warm weather, even if it is slightly unusual for this time of year! Hopefully we are almost over this bout of fall sickness, and everyone is well next week. Please remember to email both me and the office if your child is going to be away as I may not get the note right away.

Monday was Thanksgiving so the school was closed.

On Tuesday I was home sick, but the kids did great. Members of the fire department surprised everyone with a pancake breakfast which was a fun way to start the day. We also had our first Oral Language groups where we worked on story sequencing. The kids had a visit from the firefighters and learned about fire safety. We also had the first fire drill of the year.

Wednesday, we wrote about our family in journals, went to the Whole School Meeting and exchanged books at the library. Outside the kids searched for, and sorted, different coloured leaves and then played in the forest.

On Thursday we played a math game using dice and unifix cubes to make towers (also good for fine motor development!) and then we went to the gym. We enjoyed learning a traditional Coast Salish game from Quinten Harris in the outdoor classroom. The kids always love when he comes to visit.

Friday was a school day and PJ day!  We worked on our printing, made beautiful autumn art, had music class, and went outside to learn and play in nature. Scholastic Reading Club book orders were sent home. These affordable books are a great way to help our class raise money for our classroom library!

A quick note about Show and Tell. Please remind your child to choose one thing to bring and that it is to stay in their bag unless they are ready to share playing with it with everyone at centres time. Please try to stick to the assigned day.

Here is the Show and Tell schedule again that will be the same all year:

Monday or Friday if Monday was a holiday: Anna, Beau, Celeste and Dash

Tuesdays: Journey, Julian, Kaizen and Levi

Wednesdays: Logan, Nina, Oak, Ollie and Raewyn

Thursdays: Reilynn, River, Sean and Yuawi

Important Dates to Remember:

October 20 – Trip to the Byron Farm pumpkin patch! **Awaiting bus confirmation**

October 27 – Early dismissal for parent-teacher meetings

October 31- Halloween!

I hope you are all staying healthy and have a very nice weekend.

Warmly,

Ara Van Riel
