 June 10th Edition of

The Kindergarten Class News

Hi Everyone, we had another busy week. We are nearing the end of our school year! I hope that all the children will be here for our last few days of school as there are many exciting events planned. Please let me know, if you haven’t already done so, if you will be starting your holiday early.

On Monday we practiced our numbers in a card game called Face Off. Later we went up to visit the grade 4/5 class and did buddy reading. It’s always sweet to see how the big and little kids are with each other. Later the class went to Music and then we harvested lettuce from our garden to snack on!

Tuesday was a warm day and we celebrated by having a picnic snack outside. We also wrote about what we love to do in the summer and enjoyed some quiet drawing time. Later the class went to the library for a story and then we spent time outside.

On Wednesday we continued learning about financial literacy, this time introducing coins and their value. Sia, Kieran and Fen presented their butterfly art at the Whole School Meeting and then we went to centres. After nature class, the big buddies came to our class for more buddy reading and then we went outside.

Thursday was a WET day. We started the day off with free-choice in the gym and then self-reflection on the core competencies. Later we practiced reading, had quiet choice time and then met Reed from the Salt Spring Island Conservancy in the outdoor classroom for a pre-trip lesson about our trip to Ruckle Park. The day ended with our caterpillars arriving! The class is excited to observe them grow and transform into butterflies.

Friday was a school day on a Thursday schedule. The grade 5/6 class created Curiosity Projects and we went to see them in the morning. It was nice to see what the ‘big kids’ are interested in. Later we reviewed some of the math concepts we have been learning and went outside for gym. The class got crafty in the afternoon and made beautiful sun art. We also took art outside for nature art time. It was a nice end to a long week.

On Monday we will be doing reading assessments so please try to arrive on time.
