November 4th Edition of
The Kindergarten Class News
Hello once again!
We had another eventful week! The rains are here, and I send a big thanks to all of you for sending good rain gear to school. I’ll do my best to make sure these little ones are bundled up for our outdoor learning. Good rain boots are also essential, as the forest pathways are flooded. You can help at home by encouraging independence when dressing/undressing for outside as it can take a long time to help everyone zip and get boots on and off.
Monday, we practiced printing the lowercase ‘o’. We also started practicing underhand throwing in the gym and made beautiful art using different kinds of lines and colours. Later the kids went to music class and then we went to the outdoor classroom to learn about the Cost Salish legend of how Mt. Maxwell (or “Hwmat‘etsum”) got its hump.
On Tuesday we dissected the number 4, started working with wordless picture books in our Oral Language Groups and went to the library. Later we a letter game and started learning about our 5 senses while outside. Today we focused on the sense of sight and explored the forest to zoom in on the little things.
Wednesday the class learned more about numbers in a fun “read the room” activity. They also wrote in their journals and went to the outdoor classroom with Ms. Cameron. Later we practiced reading and then explored the sense of sound in the forest. It was a wet afternoon!
On Thursday we had free choice in the gym, worked on completing fall themed patterns and investigated hidden letters. We have begun learning about animals who hibernate! Later we talked about our sense of taste and made tea from edibles in our forest. Happy Diwali!
