The Kindergarten Class News
Happy Friday Everyone!
We have had another eventful week. The class continues to practice using Whole Body Listening when it is expected and our focus right now is being kind to one another.
Monday was Thanksgiving so the school was closed.
On Tuesday we wrote about our holiday weekend in journals and worked on underhand throwing in the gym. We also had our Oral Language Groups and worked on number formation.
Wednesday we read a book called “Have you filled a bucket today?” by, Carol McLoud. The lesson is that everyone has an invisiable bucket that can be filled with kindness or things that make him or her feel good. We try not to “dip” from other people’s buckets as that also “dips” from our own. The class is very good about being kind. We also learned more about the 4 seasons and the 13 moons (a First Nations way of tracking the seasons).
On Thursday we had our Whole School Meeting (Athena and James presented), went to music class and practiced an earthquake drill as a part of Shake it Out BC. We also had fun with numbers in a pumpkin themed math activity. Home reading books and pizza orders were sent home.
Friday was a school day and PJ day! The kids went to the library and then made fun jack-o-lantern art. We also worked on our printing and went outside to learn and play in nature. We then went for a walk to check out the bog and noticed it is starting to fill with water.
Next Tuesday, October 22nd, we are going on to the pumpkin patch. We will be leaving the school at 12:45pm and taking the school bus to and from the farm. Each child will get to pick out a pumpkin to bring home! We will return to the school at the end of the day (2:45pm). If your child is catching the bus home that day we may need to keep the pumpkin at school to be picked up at a later time. Please hand in the $5/permission slip by Monday at the latest.
As you know, we have now started our home reading program. Please try to keep the purple folder, book and planner in the plastic bag and return it each school day so your child can exchange their book. I hope you enjoy this reading time with your child.
Pizza day is coming up on Thursday, Oct. 24th! Order forms were sent home in the planner bag if you wish to order any for your child. $/forms are due back on Monday.
