Newsletter #24

 March 11th Edition of

The Kindergarten Class News

Hello Everyone, here is the last newsletter before the break.

This week on Monday we started adding a feeling to our writing. Mrs. Freeman was with the class during this block and was very impressed with our little writers! We also made beautiful spring flowers in art and enjoyed a sunny afternoon in the garden and forest.

Tuesday, we started learning about alliteration in our Oral Language groups. The kids practiced isolating the beginning sound in words. We also continued our writing practice and made sure our pictures matched our words. Later the class went to Music and it was another sunny afternoon outside.

On Wednesday Mrs. Lamirand helped with our writing black and we played a fun math game. Library books were not checked out as they often get lost over the break. We also talked about how touching can be appropriate and inappropriate and to remember that our bodies are our own during our C.A.R.E. kit lesson.

Thursday was a very exciting day! It was the 100th day of school (!!) plus it was pizza day, crazy hair day and the last day before the break. The kids were, understandably, very high energy! Thanks for sending in the collections of 100 items, it was fun to see these representations! We explored the number 100 throughout the day and had a lot of fun!

We will be on the letter ‘Vv’ for Show and Tell when we return after the break.

Important dates to remember:

March 29 School back in session

April 5 Easter Monday (No School)

April 9 Friday School Day (Monday Schedule)

I hope you all have an enjoyable Spring Break, whatever it is you get up to.

Warmly,

Newsletter #23

 March 4th Edition of

The Kindergarten Class News

Hello Everyone, one more week to go until Spring Break!

This week on Monday we continued working on our writing, with the focus of going back and adding on to existing stories. I Can’t wait for you to see the work these kids are turning out! We also practiced printing the letter ‘p’ and got creative in art. The kids took the lead on making spring flower pictures however they felt, and it was great to see the variety of styles.

Tuesday, we used the sense of smell to inspire a memory for our writing. We also continued our work on syllables in our oral language groups and the class went to Music.

On Wednesday Mrs. Lamirand led the class in a mini lesson on using all of the senses to communicate meaning in our writing. We also started conferencing and setting writing goals. In math, the kids practiced adding one more to numbers and then went to the library. Later we talked about how our bodies are our own in the C.A.R.E. kit lesson. In the forest, the class played a fun game and enjoyed the smells of spring.

Thursday was a half-day to accommodate the parent-teaching meetings. We practiced adding more colour to our pictures during our writing lesson, and worked on taking one number away (one less) in math. It was also Eva’s birthday! Happy Birthday, Eva!

Next week will be a busy last week before the break! Please return all library books.

We will be having a Pizza Day on Thursday, March 11. Please send in order forms by Monday. As the other classes eat lunch after we normally do, please send enough other snacks to last your child 2 eating breaks.

Thursday will also be crazy hair day and 100’s day! Wow!

To celebrate 100’s day, your child is invited to bring in a collection of 100 items (buttons, stickers, beads, beans, gems etc.) in a jar or other display case. It’s fun to see the number 100 visually in different ways!

Important dates to remember:

March 11 Pizza Day, Crazy Hair Day, 100’s Day!

March 12 Spring Break begins!

March 29 School back in session

April 5 Easter Monday (no school)

April 9 School in session

Have a nice weekend.

Newsletter #22

 February 25th Edition of

The Kindergarten Class News

Hi Everyone! What a week!

Here are some highlights:

Monday, we had a lot of fun working on story telling in our story workshops. The kids focused on a beginning, middle and end while adding a problem to solve. Rory was the winner of a pink shirt for Pink Shirt Day.

On Tuesday the class worked on syllables in our Oral Language groups. Ask your child to clap out a word for you! Later we worked on our story workshops again and the kids went to Music class.

Wednesday was Pink Shirt Day! It was great seeing the school support anti-bullying in this way. Wednesday was also the beginning of a 6 week-long writing blitz we have started with Mrs. Lamirand! The kids blew us away with their stamina and focus. We also worked on math, and talked about the proper names for the “private parts” during our C.A.R.E. kit lesson.

Thursday was another fun writing session with Mrs. Lamirand. I had an appointment after recess so Mrs. Lamirand taught the rest of the day.

Important dates to remember:

March 4 Early dismissal for Student Led Conferences. I have contacted all of the parents I would like to meet with. If you did not hear from me, there’s no need to set up a meeting unless you have something specific to discuss.
