 October 13th Edition of

The Kindergarten Class News

Happy Friday Everyone!

We continue to enjoy the warm weather, even if it is slightly unusual for this time of year!

Monday was Thanksgiving so the school was closed.

It was a busy week with some high energy from the class. We needed a few chats about the classroom expectations however, I feel by the end of the week, we were getting back in the groove.

We started The Circle program with Kate Nash where we will talk and play games that help build empathy and friendship skills. We continued this theme in class and introduced our “Feelings Thermometer”. The children rate their emotional state from 1 (calm, cool and collected) to 5 (out of control/big emotional outburst). This language can be used at home and is an easy, quick way to identify feelings.

We had a bus safety lesson and the class all got to practice safely crossing the “road” and the rules of the bus.

We also had a nice time in the garden on Thursday and helped plant garlic! The kids also got to enjoy picking and eating apples.

Friday was a school day and PJ day! It was fun being cozy all day.

Scholastic Reading Club book orders were sent home. These affordable books are a great way to help our class raise money for our classroom library! The cutoff date for this flier is October 30th so if you want to order anything, please go online and submit before then. The class code is written in the top corner of the flier.

School photos also went home. Retakes will be on November 5th.

Next week we will be starting our home reading program. This is a great way to support the reading practice we do at school. At this point, the books will be simple, short books to build confidence and establish a reading routine.

Important Dates to Remember:

October 19th – Pumpkin Patch trip

October 26th -Early Dismissal for learning update

October 29th  - Halloween at school- dress up for school, class party!

October 31st Halloween

November 4th Raffle Tickets due back (sold or unsold)

November 5th Photo Retakes

I hope you all have a very nice weekend and let’s hope this nice weather sticks around for the pumpkin patch trip!
