April 7th Edition of
The Kindergarten Class News
Hello families, I hope you all had a good break. It is nice to feel the beauty of spring all around us after such a long winter.
Monday was our first day back and everyone was happy to see each other. We have started an EPIC grant writing sprint and will be focusing on writing with the help of Mrs. Thompson for the next few weeks. I am so pleased at the progress I am already seeing. We also have started learning more about ducks as we hope to hatch duck eggs this month! The kids made very cute ducks in art. Later they went to Music and Mrs. Freeman sang with the class. The garden is sprouting, and we all noticed our little pea plants and lettuce growing bigger.
On Tuesday, we finally had our first dance class with Kristen Lewis (after having to reschedule a few times). The kids had a lot of fun. Later we continued our work on isolating the beginning sound in words in our Oral Language Groups, wrote more about Spring Break in writing and went to the library. We also planted carrots and radishes in the garden!
Wednesday was a big day! It was the 100th day of school and we celebrated by incorporating the number 100 into many of our activities. The whole class presented their 100 collections and Whole School Meeting, and we did a lot of counting! We also set our duck eggs in the incubator and will be studying them for the next 28 days. Fingers crossed for a successful hatch.
On Thursday we had free-choice in the gym, worked on one less in math and started a story workshop activity! The kids will be creating their own books. Later we practiced reading and made “sprout houses” to study how roots and shoots develop in beans.
