The Kindergarten Class News

Hello again.

Hello sunshine! Everyone has enjoyed the beautiful weather this week. Please remember to send your child to school with sunscreen on and a hat if you feel they need it. We are loving the sun.

Monday was another beautiful day. We are reviewing printing numbers now to encourage proper formation. We started with the number 2. We also worked on an Earth Day inspired craft and writing piece. It was heartwarming to hear the children speak of caring for our earth. We sure live in a great community of big thinkers!

On Tuesday we started blending sounds together in our Oral Language Groups. We wrote in our journals (after a long break for our EPIC writing project) and I was so pleased at how independent the kids are now! We continue to care for our little garden and some of our peas have now sprouted!

Wednesday the kids had fun in the gym and then we learned about the different body parts of an insect. Ask your child to sing you the insect song! Later we went to the library and then made sprout houses for our window so we can observe beans growing roots and shoots. In the afternoon, we started a nature art project. We practiced drawing what we heard in nature with our eyes closed. The kids were so focused!

On Thursday we celebrated Earth Day! We also celebrated each other as authors and shared out the animal stories the kids created. Later, we worked on sight words and made handprint tulips. I met with Mrs. Lamirand in the afternoon to go over the EPIC project results and noticed how much everyone has improved in their writing! Great work.

Hello again.

The kids had another fun week, aside from the sickness going around. We enjoyed the beautiful sunny weather and hope to see everyone back next week!

On Monday we worked on printing the lowercase letter u. We also worked on using our fingers to hear the sounds in words. Later Laurel Kiel came in to lead a clay workshop! The kids all enjoyed this a lot.

Tuesday, we continued our work on identifying the ending sound in words and added in identifying the middle sound.

On Wednesday we started adding to our math talks into our morning routine by playing Which One Doesn’t Belong. We also had our final session of writing with Mrs. Lamirand and went to the library. Please remember to send back the library books each week so that your child can check another one out. We have started learning all about insects! See if your child can remember how many legs an insect has?

Thursday was a fun day! We had our last official EPIC writing day, and the kids produced some amazing work. What progress they have made! We also took advantage of the beautiful weather and had a picnic lunch under the blossom trees! After the class came back from Music, we went outside and enjoyed the forest. It was so hot that we ended up playing spray tag with a misting water bottle! We all had a blast.

 April 9th Edition of

The Kindergarten Class News

Hello families, here are a few highlights from our week.

Monday there was no school due to the Easter long weekend.

On Tuesday we welcomed a new student to our class! Her name is Oaklyn, and she is a welcome addition to the group. Everyone was excited to share stories about their long weekend and the kids wrote about these stories in writing. We started working on identifying ending sounds in our oral language groups and then the class went to Music class. I was in a Changing Results for Young Children for the afternoon and the children enjoyed some time outside.

Wednesday we worked on different ways to make 10 in math and looked at adding spaces between our words in our writing. Later the kids went to the library and practiced reading. We continue to watch and water our pea garden! Soon little shoots will poke through.

On Thursday we practiced re-reading our writing to check for understanding and worked more on making 10 in math. Later the kids went to Music and Quinten showed us a fun game in outdoor PE.

Friday was a school day on a Monday schedule. If your child usually has show and tell on Mondays, when there is no school on Monday they will have their turn on the Friday.

Important dates to remember:

April 12th -Clay workshop

I hope you have a nice (short) weekend.
