Newsletter #20

 March 9th Edition of

The Kindergarten Class News

Hello Everyone, there is only one more week left before the break! This will be the last newsletter until we return in April.

This week on Monday we started learning about “diggers” in printing. These are letters that hang down below the line such as j or g. We continued learning about syllables, and made beautiful spring blossom trees in art. The weather continues to be cold!

Tuesday, we practiced counting and writing numbers by going on a mitten hunt around the room! We also started learning about alliteration in our Oral Language groups. The kids practiced isolating the beginning sound in words. Later the class went to Music, and it was a sunny afternoon outside.

On Wednesday we had fun doing literacy stations that focused on syllables and the beginning sound in words. These skills help teach your child how words are made up of different sounds. We also went to our Whole School Meeting and Levi and Anna presented their mitten art to the school. After we had our daily reading practice, the children went to the library to sign out a new book. Please be sure to send back any books you have before the break. The afternoon was sunny and the class enjoyed some outside time.

Thursday we played a number game to help reinforce the understanding of higher or lower numbers. We also wrote in our journals and went to music. As always, the kids helped clean up the classroom for the weekend and finished the day off outside.

We will be on the letter ‘T’ for Show and Tell next week.

Newsletter #19

 March 2nd Edition of

The Kindergarten Class News

Hello Everyone, what a interesting week!

This week on Monday we continued working on our printing (h) and phonological awareness. We had low attendance all week. It started snowing mid-day and the kids made mitten art inspired by the book, “The Mitten” by Jan Brett.

Tuesday was a snow day! I learned that if I don’t have power, I can’t call anyone who may have requested a school closure call as there was also no cell service. An email was sent out (not helpful if you also had no power!) but if this happens again, assume there is no school.

On Wednesday we continued working on letter understanding and had fun in the gym. The kids all had fun playing in the snow. Thanks for sending good outside gear! Kaizen and Celeste presented their rainbow fish art at the Whole School Meeting.

Thursday was pizza day! This was exciting. We also wrote about what a good day would be for us and later welcomed Quinten (aka Mr. Cucumber) in to lead up in a craft. The class went to music and then we went on a Winter scavenger hunt outside.

We are nearing the 100th day of school! It will be on April 3rd, the first day back from Spring Break. To celebrate 100’s day, your child is invited to bring in a collection of 100 items (buttons, stickers, beads, beans, gems etc.) in a jar, glued on a poster or in/on some other display case. It’s fun to see the number 100 represented visually in different ways! It is an exciting day so hopefully everyone can be there.

Important Dates to Remember:

March 17 Spring Break begins!

April 3 School back in session and 100’s Day! Clay workshop with Laura Keil.
