September 16th Edition of
The Kindergarten Class News
Hello Everyone!
We had an exciting first week as a whole class. Everyone is learning about our rules and routines such as sitting in the circle, cleaning up, or forming a line at the door. Well done!
The students have enjoyed getting to know one another this week and have had lots of fun learning about names and spending time in nature. They are also learning how to play safely with each other in the gym and outdoors. Here are some highlights from our week:
On Monday we hunted for our first initials and made letter art. We also went to Music class and continued learning about the routines of our school day. The kids were very excited to go to the gym! We also learned a little more about our new friends and enjoyed searching for different colours in the forest.
Tuesday, we talked about how we felt on the first day of school and did an activity inspired by, “The Kissing Hand” by Audrey Penn. Olive Mann, part of our oral language team, came to read a book about Whole Body Listening. Ask your child to tell you about what that means. Tuesday was the first visit to the library! Please return the books by next Tuesday so your child can sign out a new one next week. Outside we experimented with objects that might sink or float and then our friend Quinet Harris came to meet the class. Quinten visits the school each month and helps enrich our school with indigenous teachings and stories. He also loves to play hockey with the kids!
On Wednesday we continued to work on playing safely and cooperatively in the gym. We have been enjoying the plentiful apple trees in the garden and brought this theme into a counting activity. The kids practiced writing their names in journals and Ms. Cameron led the class in a nature studies activity. Later we practiced reading and collected and counted natural objects in the forest.
Thursday, we learned more about our letters through a fun game, made colourful name art and went on a nature walk to explore the “bog”. We will return to the bog often to play and observe the seasonal changes. We ended off our week with our Terry Fox run! The children were amazing! Well done.
Thank you to those of you who have already returned the student information forms. Rebecca needs them all back by Monday.
Next week we start our All About Me presentations! Here is a reminder about who is scheduled for the week:
Monday- Arrow and Arye
Tuesday- Baden and Emmi
Wednesday- Farley and Fen
Thursday- Jesse and Kieran
On Thursday, September 23 there will be an early dismissal and students will be ready for pick up/bus at 12:00pm. This is to facilitate the “Tell me about your child” meetings in the afternoon. We have already met but if there’s something you’d like to discuss with me, please be in touch.
I am looking for a parent who would be willing to take on the position of class rep. This person would communicate info from the PAC, if needed, and activate the emergency phone tree if schools were closed due to the weather. Please let me know if you would like to be this person. I will take the first to respond.
