Newsletter #33

 May 30th Edition of

The K/1 Class News

Hi everyone, here is our last newsletter of May, the countdown is on! We are all ready for the weather to warm up a bit!

We started out the week with a performance from the band class. What a great demonstration of hard work and musical talent!

A big highlight of the week was the butterfly release. Most of our butterflies hatched and were release on Tuesday. What a magical experience! We loved watching them fly off or rest on the flowers outside.

We continue to work on our seasonal tradition pieces and the class LOVED trying out their own “offices” aka privacy dividers they can set up so they can focus.

We have now started learning about financial literacy in math, always a fun topic!

Our first 'Kids in the Know' lesson went really well and you will notice home activities that will help you continue this important conversation at home.

We ended the week with a fun Reader’s Theatre presentation by the grades 2/3 class. Very good!

We are organizing a Fun Day (afternoon) on June 11th. This is always a highlight! It’s kind of like a field day with fun stations and activities. I will be running a face painting station and could use a little help. You don’t have to be super artistic; we will just do simple designs. Is anyone able to volunteer that afternoon from 1pm-3pm? Please let me know.

I will be conducting a reading assessment on Monday morning so it would be great to have everyone in attendance. I know there has been extra sickness going around so hopefully a weekend of rest does the trick.

Please return all library books, inventory will start soon.

Important Dates to Remember:

June 3rd Reading assessments

June 6th PAC Dance

June 11th Fun Day! (afternoon)

June 13th PAC BBQ

June 24th Year End Whole School Picnic at Drummond Park (Families are welcome to join us!)

Have a nice weekend,

Newsletter #32

May 24th Edition of

The K/1 Class News

Hi everyone, we had a very fun week! There was pizza and backwards day and more.

Monday was a holiday, no school. I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend.

Our butterflies have started to hatch! So far two have emerged and likely more will come out over the weekend. The kids are so excited!

Another highlight of our week was the monster stuffy activity. A while back, the class all drew monster pictures. We collected them and the grade 6/used the pictures to sew real stuffies! It was a very exciting surprise.

We continue learning about doubles in math and building stamina in writing. Our seasonal traditions projects are coming along, and it has been nice hearing about all the different things people do each season. We have been learning about wild roses and honeysuckle and have enjoyed watching the bees gather pollen.

Next week I will be starting to teach the class about body awareness and personal safety skills as is required by the BC curriculum. It will be based off lessons from: https://www.kidsintheknow.ca/app/en/about if you want more information.

We are nearing the end of the year! Please keep an eye on the following dates:

Newsletter #31

 May 16th Edition of

The K/1 Class News

Hi Everyone, here we are nearing the end of May already! Please make sure you send back your sold and unsold raffle tickets so we can collect them.

We started having fun with the rainbow parachute in the gym. A great lesson on collaboration and turn taking! We have been learning about edible plants in the forest and garden and are clear that children need to ask an adult before eating the plants.

We have started our family traditions project. It’s so fun learning about all the different things families do that mark the seasons. If you have yet to fill out the form about what your family does each season, there is still time. Please send it in. This is an ongoing project.

Our caterpillars have all taken the chrysalis form now and we will eagerly wait for the butterflies to hatch.

If anyone is doing Spring cleaning and has old pants/tights/rain gear/socks… that don’t fit your child anymore, we happily accept donations for the spare bin. Most of my extras have found new homes.

Pizza day is next Thursday. This has been organized by the grade 6/7 class. As we eat on a different schedule, we won’t be getting our pizza until last snack. Please send your child with enough food to last them 2 snacks so they aren’t left hungry. We usually have extra food, but you know what your child eats best.

Important Dates to Remember:

May 20th Victoria Day (No school)

May 23rd Pizza Day

May 24th School Day
