 May 26th Edition of

The Kindergarten Class News

Hi everyone, we had a very fun week!

Monday was a holiday, no school.

On Tuesday the class learned about the life cycle of the butterfly. They also worked more on writing and went to Music. Later we learned about wild roses in the forest and cared for the garden.

Wednesday the class was thrilled to see the butterflies had started to hatch! We added another page into the butterfly observation journals. Later we worked more on counting with tens frames and natural objects. We went to the Whole School Meeting and returned our library books. In the afternoon we made nature mandalas in the forest.

On Thursday we noticed many more butterflies had emerged! We had our class and school photo taken and we look forward to seeing how they turn out. In writing, we worked on adding on another sentence so an existing piece of work. Later the class went to Music and then we went on a nature walk to the bog. All of the water is gone!

Friday was a super fun day! We said goodbye to our butterflies and released them to the wild. We had a representative from the Salt Spring Conservancy come in to do a pre-trip lesson and everyone is looking forward to our trip. In the afternoon the kids in grades K-3 enjoyed fun day! They rotated through different stations like water relays, face painting, an obstacle course and so on. Everyone had a blast!

We will be going on a field trip to Duck Creek Park on June 5th. Permission slips went home on Thursday. Please return both forms next week. The trip is organized by the Salt Spring Conservancy and is always a great day of learning and adventure. Also, please be sure to have your child arrive at school on time on this day, as we will be getting organized to leave right away.

Newsletter #27

 May 18th Edition of

The Kindergarten Class News

Hi Everyone, here we are nearing the end of May already! Next week will be a fun week. Children are now free to bring any one item for Show and Tell.

On Monday we were excited to see many of our caterpillars had transformed into chrysalids. We practiced printing the letter y and had more fun using counting collections. Later we added a page into our butterfly observation journals and made butterfly symmetry art.

Tuesday, we learned about choosing different forms of units for measurement and measured each other! We also focused on adding finger spaces between words in our writing and how this makes it much easier to read. Later we met “Trusty” a puppet from our Care Kit. Trusty will be helping us learn about our bodies and how to respect them.

On Wednesday we had a caterpillar themed literacy/numeracy activity and then counted insects in math. We also enjoyed the choir singing and went to the library. The library will be closing soon to start the yearly inventory so please make sure all library books are returned next week.

Thursday, we learned more about the butterfly life cycle and wrote butterfly inspired poetry. Later the kids went to Music and then we took care of the garden. The tent caterpillars continue to be a fascination...
