 February 16th Edition of

The Kindergarten Class News

Hello everyone.

It was a very busy week!

On Monday we worked more on printing, practiced our basketball skills, and worked on letter knowledge. We practiced reading and made Valentine’s bags to hold our cards! It was a beautiful afternoon and we each chose a special tree in the forest. We will visit these trees often.

Tuesday was Valentine’s Day! The kids had a fun day. Thanks to the parents who sent in snacks to share, it always makes these days more special. The children enjoyed music and practiced counting and adding in math.

Wednesday was a half day to accommodate student led conferences. It was so nice watching the children demonstrate their learning for you! I could tell they were proud.

Thursday was a good day. The class used writing goals to help guide their writing in journals and I was pleased with the growth! Later we talked about how important it is to eat a variety of healthy foods and we came up with different fruits or veggies for every colour of the rainbow. The class went to music and Quinten led a game in the outdoor classroom.

Important Dates to Remember:

February 22 Pink Shirt Day (to support anti-bullying)

 February 9th Edition of

The Kindergarten Class News

Greetings Everyone.

February is turning into a very busy month!

We continue our focus on kindness and our kindness tree is filling up fast.

Monday, we practiced printing the letter ‘h’. We also continued learning basketball skills in the gym. Many of the children finished our nutrition project and this week the focus was on whole grains (carbs) and proteins. The kids have enjoyed learning how eating the rainbow helps your body. On that note, please try to keep candy or other “treats” for enjoying at home.

Tuesday, we had another session of our Oral Language Groups and we started learning how to break sentences into words. The kids rocked this! We also worked on math and went to music.

On Wednesday we practiced some of the literacy activities the children will show you at the Student Led conferences. At Whole School Meeting, Kaizen, Reilynn and Celeste told the school about our kindness challenge and how we are “growing kindness” in our class. Please remember to send library books back every Wednesday or write me a note about books you want to keep for a little longer so the librarian can keep track.

Thursday we wrote about how we are kind to others in journals and made heart art. After music class, we were surprised by an unplanned fire drill (what happens when the alarm is pulled…) and had to wait outside for the fire department to give us the all clear. Everyone was very patient, and we were lucky it was a clear day.

Important Dates to Remember:

February 13 Kindergarten Family discussion group. 3:15-4:15

February 14 Valentine’s Day (feel free to send in a snack to share, we will be having a party!)

February 15 Student Led Conferences/Early Dismissal

February 20 Family Day (no school)

February 22 Pink Shirt Day (to support anti-bullying)

February 24 School in session

Show and Tell next week is the letter ‘P’.

Warmly,

Newsletter #16

 February 2nd Edition of

The Kindergarten Class News

Happy February Everyone!

This month we will have an extra special focus on kindness and leading with love. We have started a kindness challenge and will be celebrating kind deeds.

On Monday we worked on our printing, continued learning basketball skills (bounce passing) and practiced identifying our letter sounds. We also started learning about good nutrition and how eating a balanced diet is important.

Tuesday was a surprise snow day! The kids enjoyed playing outside and making snow forts. Inside, we practiced number recognition through a card game, identified the different body parts of a penguin and went to music class. The forest was very pretty in the snow.

On Wednesday the class worked on journal writing and went to the library. It was sunny, yet cold out in the forest!

Thursday, we worked on writing about penguins, had buddy reading, and free choice in the gym. As always, the class went to music and then we spent the afternoon in the forest. We observed the seasonal changes taking place as we notice flowers shooting up and buds forming on bushes and trees. An early spring perhaps?

With Valentine’s Day coming up, we are planning a little class celebration on Tuesday, February 14th. We will have a card exchange and the kids always love this. It is encouraged that children make a card for everyone in the class. I will send a list of names.

Please remember to sign up for the Student Led Conferences through the link I sent. Students will be dismissed at 12pm and then you can bring them back at the time of your appointment. There will be other families in the room as you work your way through the stations.

Next week is ‘O’ for show and tell.

Important Dates to Remember:

February 14 Valentine’s Day

February 15 Student Led Conferences

February 20 Family Day (no school)

February 24 School in session

March 17 Spring Break Starts

April 3 School Re-opens
