Newsletter #24

March 15th Edition of
The Kindergarten Class News

Hello Everyone, here is the last newsletter before the break.

This week on Monday we continued working on basketball skills in the gym, made beautiful spring flowers in art and worked on matching uppercase and lowercase letters. We also had our final library visit before the break and went out to the forest.

Tuesday we practiced printing the letter ‘p’, worked on counting in math using dominos and had our last book session with Glen. We look forward to the “Book Launch” party after the break.

On Wednesday we wrote about what makes our family special in our journals, practiced our reading and made animals puppets with Mrs. Freeman who was in for Kaz. Later we went outside and enjoyed a sunny forest play.

Thursday was our last day together before the break. We practiced reading and writing sight words, played a number game and had music class. We enjoyed centres time in the afternoon and then went outside.

We will be starting a Nature Art workshop led by Lisa Lipsett starting in April. Our first session will be on April 1st, the first day back. If you would like to see what this is all about you can check out her video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuIC83Gk-Oc&feature=youtu.be

We will be on the letter ‘Tt’ for Show and Tell when we return after the break.

Important dates to remember:
April 1 School back in session and Nature Art start date
April 22 Easter Monday (No School)
April 26 Friday School Day (Monday Schedule)

I hope you all have an enjoyable Spring Break, whatever it is you get up to. Hopefully be the time we return to school spring will be here in full force.

Warmly,

Newsletter #23

March 7th Edition of
The Kindergarten Class News

Hello Everyone, one more week to go until Spring Break!

This week on Monday we continued working on basketball skills, compound words and open-ended math questions. The kids also all proudly shared their animal storybooks as part of an “authors chair” scenario. We also went to the Library to check out new books. Please send back any overdue books so that your child can sign out a new book.

Tuesday we had our last dance session until May. We also wrapped up our measurement unit and worked on our class story with Glen. In the afternoon we walked to the bog to check if it was still frozen. It was, but is melting.

On Wednesday we worked in our journals and later welcomed Johanna and Laura in to continue our salmon project, this time working with clay.

Thursday was a half-day to accommodate the Student Led Conferences. We had free choice in the gym, went to music and practiced for the conferences. The kids worked hard to prepare for this day and took a lot of pride in sharing their growth and knowledge. Thanks for taking the time to come share in this experience with your child.

Glen has been working with the class over the past number of weeks creating a story that is just about finished! We will be having a "book launch" party the first Tuesday after Spring Break (April 2nd) at 10:30am if anyone would like to hear the reading of the story.

Important dates to remember:
March 15 First day of Spring Break
April 1 School back in session
April 2 Class Story Book Launch (10:30am)
